How about software protection?

MVS uses the HASP keytag system for software protection. These keytags connect to the USB port. Network HASP keytags have been tested and operate on all common network systems.

What program support will be available?

At MVS we believe that it is important to include a User's Manual with all software. The Users Manuals have been developed using Adobe Acrobat, and a free copy of the Acrobat reader software (version 4.0) is included with the program. Significant efforts were devoted to developing detailed Help Tools that provide the first source of information to the user. The software also incorporates full Help Menu features and tutorials.

As with all our software, MVS provides full engineering technical support to our program users. MVS is an engineering consulting firm, which allows our technical personnel to be fully acquainted with the practical application of VnetPC (data collection, data reduction, development of the network, correlation of the model, future design analyses, etc.).

Product Training?

MVS offers short courses on ventilation planning and design using the VnetPC Pro+ program. The training may be offered at a specific operation, or may be a general course affiliated with a university or conference. Please contact us for training inquiries.

I do not live in the US, but I still want one of your programs!

We offer shipping all around the world. The HASP keytag along with the program and drivers (on a USB flash drive) will be mailed to you automatically.

I installed VnetPC and HASP drivers fine, but trying to open an existing or new file gives me an error.  What should I do?

Is VNet compatible with VnetPC Pro+ files?

Yes. From VNet, you will need to import the Pro+ .vdb model. VNet will automatically save a .vds file in the same directory with the same filename from which you imported the Pro+ model. Models from VnetPC Pro and earlier versions will be required to be saved in VnetPC Pro+ before importing into the new VNet. Please be aware that VnetPC Pro+ is not currently forward compatible. Therefore, models (.vds) saved in VNet will not open in earlier versions of VnetPC.

What is the difference between VNet and VnetPC Pro+?

While adapted and improved from VnetPC Pro+, VNet aims to be the most user-friendly, economical choice in the industry for ventilation planning.

VNet is a ventilation network simulator designed to assist personnel in the planning of underground ventilation systems. Adapted from VnetPC, VNet aims to be the most user-friendly, economical choice in the industry for ventilation planning.

MineFire is a Fire and Gas Flow Simulation Software MineFire is a Windows-based package of programs that combines the utility of the former US Bureau of Mines' MFire code with Windows data representation, and the user-friendliness and reliability of the VnetPC program. MineFire allows the user to simulate fires, heat flow, contaminant flow, and/or natural ventilation in underground ventilation networks using the familiar VnetPC graphical and tabular interfaces. Results are displayed both symbolically and numerically on the schematic. This gives the user flexibility in utilizing the software package as a training tool, or for other uses specific to your needs.

Some important factors to keep in mind when evaluating and using MineFire:

  • MineFire runs in the Windows XP/2000/NT operating systems and is designed to be used in parallel with VnetPC. Note that the MineFire program executes only the MFire calculation kernel. MVS modified this code only to increase the branch and fan limit and to allow it to compile in a Windows environment.
  • MineFire is based on mass-balance equations. This means that the results of identical basic models between VnetPC and MineFire may not match exactly (VnetPC is based on volume-balance).


Key Features

In addition to the functionality of VnetPC, MineFire includes the following:

  • Ability to import an existing ventilation network from VnetPC 2000, 2003 or 2007, or start a new model from MineFire. Import DXF files from AutoCAD or other CAD programs just like VnetPC.
  • Fully interactive schematic allows editing and data entry of ventilation parameters, rock property data, and temperatures without having to use the table views. Table views allow the user to cut and paste data to and from Excel or other spreadsheet programs, useful for performing calculations and returning the answers to the program.
  • Dynamic results view in the schematic shows the progression of fume fronts and changes to the ventilation parameters over adjustable time increments. See the progression of the fire, and problems it might be causing.
  • Ability to vary and control parameters of the calculations using the Control Card functions, including time increments, calculation precisions, use of the fan curve, and more.
  • Ability to change the properties of a branch between an ordinary airway, fire branch, or fan branch during the course of an event through the use of a time table. Increased control of the simulation, to approximate complex situations.
  • Offered in dual units, Imperial and SI, including a conversion utility.


Applications and Uses

Transient distribution modeling is useful in a number of ways. The assumption of constant airflow rates is justified at the initiation of a fire, however at a later stage, an intense fire may noticeably impact the ventilation system. With the fire intensity controlled in part by the air supply to the fire, this interaction must be taken into account. Planners may not have accounted for this effect when designing escape routes, fire warning systems, locating fire doors, or designing other components of an underground facility's emergency plan.

Fire, and the disturbances it causes to mine ventilation are of concern to engineers. Fire events in the underground produce heat, fumes, and smoke which the ventilation system transports through the mine. Gases can be poisonous or explosive. Heat can change the intended flow of the ventilation system, which can transport fumes along unexpected routes, or have other unintended consequences. Recirculation of contaminated air is yet another possibility.

MineFire can be used to:

  • Design, locate, and model components of the mine system, such as fire doors and fuel bays. Model fires in shops or fuel bays, or test gas dispersion (stench) for possible scenarios.
  • Train, teach, and show mine personnel how a fire affects the mine. Changes to the ventilation, time available for escape, and how fast the fume front moves are all useful for mine personnel to know. The visual display aspect of the program is especially helpful.
  • Investigate or estimate fires or possible fire scenarios. Predict what could happen or what has happened and analyze results.

ClimSIM is a computer software program that is designed to aid mine ventilation and environmental engineers in the prediction of the thermodynamic and psychrometric properties of air as it flows through underground airways. The program takes into account geothermal gradient, rock thermal conductivity and diffusivity, airflow, air quality, age of the excavation, wetness of the rock surfaces and the siting and capacity of machinery and heat exchangers or other local or disseminated sources of heat and humidity.

The program has been developed to run interactively on personal computers, and in this form it has been used successfully for heat load estimation and refrigeration planning in deep metalliferous mines, intensively mechanized coal mines, potash mines and conceptual designs for proposed nuclear waste repositories. The ClimSIM program performs an analysis of heat loads on a branch by branch basis and provides a complete output of the air psychrometric conditions. Branches may be sequenced to allow a thermodynamic analysis to be performed on a network of branches, which may represent a single level or even an entire mine.

DuctSIM is a simulation program designed for both the mining and tunnelling industries to assist engineers and planners with the design and modelling of fan and duct systems. It provides a new user-friendly, cost-effective tool to quickly design, model, and analyze proposed or existing duct systems ranging from small secondary fan/duct installations to large series-fan systems.
According to input data, the user is able to construct models and optimize them by considering duct type and diameter, shock losses, and the number, type and spacing of fans. The program may be used for initial design, or to help troubleshoot and improve existing duct installations. It is useful in showing personnel the reasons behind a poor installation and ways to improve the system, resulting in safer working conditions. 

Applications and Uses

In any type of subsurface excavation, auxiliary ventilation systems represent a critical component of the overall ventilation scheme. Without adequate secondary ventilation it is impossible to provide sufficient air to dead-end headings, no matter what the quantity or quality of air at the duct inlet. In modern mining and tunneling, face ventilation problems are compounded by the large amounts of mechanized diesel equipment, and longer overall development. The increased use of diesel engines results in heat, gas and diesel particulate matter, and the generally deeper excavations leads to higher strata heat loads. A properly designed auxiliary ventilation system helps to alleviate these safety concerns.
DuctSIM allows engineers to visualize the auxiliary system, the airflow trend, and the pressure trend along the entire duct profile. This is extremely useful in identifying problem areas or leakage paths, and in properly locating fans based on the duct profile to maximize airflow where it is desired. Design an optimum system, or show managers or shifters where an installation is sub-standard and could be upgraded to improve working conditions.

  • Simple, straightforward duct entry dialogues follow a logical progression to set up the system. Select the length, duct diameter, duct material, resistance based on the construction or quality of duct installation, and set up "zones" based on transitions in the duct.
  • The Shock Loss dialogue box is completely automated - no need to look up coefficients or perform calculations. Options are given for selecting entries and exits, smooth elbows, elbow miters, dampers, screens, and fixed resistances.
  • Fan input allows the importation of fan curves from VnetPC fan file (.fdb) format, or standard table-style data input. Fan curve and operating point are plotted on the fan results view.
  • Complete design manual integrated with the program help files and user's manual. Includes formulas, shock loss coefficients, and the theory behind auxiliary system design, integrated with the complete explanation of program functions.
